Ms. Hawes completed her student teaching with us before she headed off to Costa Rica to completely complete her student teaching before she graduates from Appalachian State University. After the students completed their collographs based on the flora and fauna of Costa Rica and North Carolina they used their art to decorate a mock Costa Rican ox cart they had studied about in Spanish and Art classes. Alongside the art ox cart Ms. Hawes displayed the Costa Rica Cultural Kit we borrowed from UNC so the other students in the school could see real objects from Costa Rica.

Ms. Hawes Plans a Field Trip to the French Broad Chocolate Factory
When Ms. Hawes found out that the French Broad Chocolate Factory in Asheville sources beans from Costa Rica and works with the farmers there she asked about our students visiting the factory. The French Broad Chocolate Factory graciously donated the tour for our 42 7th grade students! We got to taste the chocolate, get the low-down on how the beans grow and are processed, and also got to tour the factory. https://frenchbroadchocolates.com/bean-to-bar-factory/
