Teaching art, sharing ideas, and helping students see that the world is a beautiful place (and that their presence in it is a big reason for this) is what I do. I'm the art teacher at North Buncombe Middle School in Weaverville, North Carolina.
In 2014 I was a runner up for the Hilton Teacher Trek Travel Grant and I had a whole itinerary planned for Kenya. After much thought I decided to use the sum of money I received as the runner up to use towards the trip. This blog is beginning there... with the hopes of building global "artships" with kindred hearts both near and far.
Laura Mitchell is a native of Greenville, South Carolina and has resided in Asheville, North Carolina for 19 years. She is the mother of three children, an artist, and a competitive runner. She received her BFA in Drawing and Painting from the University of Georgia and her Masters in Art Education from Western Carolina University. She is pursing her Global Educator Digital Badge, is the Region 8 Coordinator for the NC Art Education Association, and was the 2015 North Buncombe District Teacher of the Year Ms. Mitchell will be traveling to South Africa this summer with the Center for Cultural Understanding along with 25 other educators from across the state of North Carolina.
