It was a night I had been anticipating... sharing the connection I made and th connection I am developing with my students with parents and community members. Our March Maker Madness night was a success. While the AIG kids showed off their Makey Makey technology and paper roller coasters and the Robotics students battled their creations in the arena with their Future City as the backdrop my art students helped our visitors create postcard collages to mail the old fashioned way to Kenya. No matter how advanced technology gets there is something about sticky gluey fingers, handwritten words, and the tactile joy of creating a piece of art that can't be replaced.
We had parents make art with their middle school students, pre-schoolers making art with older siblings, teachers with students, high schoolers with middle schoolers, grandparents with grandchildren. It was a beautiful thing to see.
We are in the process of creating our quilt squares that will be sewn together by a using the cloth I brought back from Wongonyi Village along with supplies the parent has so generously donated. Check out her blog here:

So we decided since we weren't ready to have folks stitch on it yet we would let people sign the backing. It was exciting to see our community want to be a part of something larger.
